Asking your record a question¶
Ask your connected AI what your company has approved, what is waiting for you, or whether a change breaks a promise, and have it search your approved record for the answer.
Once your AI is connected to Kanonik, you can ask it questions about your own program in plain words, in the same chat where you do the work. Kanonik gives your AI read access to your approved record and tells it to search there before drafting from general knowledge. Each person asks as themselves: your AI signs in with your account and sees only what your role allows.
These questions need no approval and never edit your approved records. Each call your AI makes is logged in your history, and working out a fresh weekly digest adds a digest entry too.
Questions that work well¶
- "What is our answer on MFA for admins?" Your AI searches your record. Saved answers come first, with the exact wording your team approved, so your AI can quote it word for word instead of rephrasing it. If a saved answer needs a look, for example because a record behind it changed, the search says so.
- "What is waiting for me?" Your AI lists the approval requests open in your workspace, including ones waiting on someone else, and the ones decided recently. The decision itself still happens in Needs you or from the emailed link.
- "Where do we stand on SOC 2?" With your SOC 2 licence on record, your AI reads, requirement by requirement, what is covered, what is open and what is not applicable, with the reason recorded for each exclusion. Without it, your AI gets the counts but not the requirement lines. It gives counts, not a percentage.
- "What needs my attention this week?" Your AI reads the weekly digest: how many requests are waiting for a decision, how many times the safety check flagged a draft, how many changes proposed that week have not been committed, and audit items if an auditor engagement is open. The counts come from your record, and your AI writes the summary around them. Ask for last week, or any earlier week, too.
- "What evidence backs our backup control?" Your AI lists the evidence on your record and the controls each piece backs.
- "We are moving our CRM to a new vendor on 1 March. Does that break anything we promised?" That is Foresight. See Foresight: checking a change against your promises.
When the record has no answer¶
Your AI is told to search your record before it asks you anything a saved answer may already state, and before it drafts from general knowledge. If nothing on your record answers the question, ask your AI to say so plainly rather than fill the gap from general knowledge. You can then give it the answer and ask it to propose a saved answer, which comes to you for approval like any other change.
Who approved it, and when¶
Your AI can read your record's history and tell you who approved a record and when. In the dashboard, the Audit log shows the same for risks, controls, policies and other decisions. Reading your audit log shows how to find one.
Asking from a chat app such as Slack¶
The questions above work in any AI chat that can connect to Kanonik, because they run through the same connection as your other work. If your team uses an AI assistant inside Slack or another chat app and that assistant can connect to MCP servers, connect it to Kanonik the same way as in Connecting your AI. Each person signs in once as themselves, and the assistant sees only what that person's role allows.
What each role can ask¶
Everyone in the workspace can read the record and run Foresight. People with the Auditor role see decided work only: they are never shown what is waiting for approval, and a list of requests comes back to them with nothing pending in it. See Roles and inviting your team.
