Bring your own model for compliance
Your company may already have reviewed, approved and paid for an AI service. BYOM lets you build on that decision instead of adopting a second assistant simply to do compliance work.
What BYOM means
General meaning: Bring your own model (BYOM) means using an AI model you choose instead of being limited to the assistant supplied with an application.
Why it matters
Your company may already have reviewed, approved and paid for an AI service. BYOM lets you build on that decision instead of adopting a second assistant simply to do compliance work.
With Kanonik
Use the AI your team is comfortable with. Your AI does the reasoning over an MCP connection; Kanonik provides compliance instructions, a structured program record and a checking and review workflow. Kanonik hosts no general model and never asks for or stores your credentials. The model doing the preparation can change while the compliance program stays in Kanonik.
Why Kanonik takes this approach
Your approved AI stays in place
Keep the model that passed your procurement and security review. Connecting Kanonik still needs the appropriate approval, but you do not have to replace your chosen AI to use it.
You choose the model
We focus on compliance rather than building a competing general-purpose model. You can evaluate improvements from the leading AI labs without tying your program to one compliance vendor's choice of assistant.
Access to your systems stays with you
Your AI works with the permissions your organization gives it. Kanonik receives the compliance information it prepares without needing your source-system credentials. The submitted compliance material still enters Kanonik; BYOM does not mean no data leaves your environment.
Fewer duplicate connectors to maintain
If your AI already has authorized access to a system, Kanonik can work with the information it submits. That reduces the need for another connector with its own permissions, setup and maintenance. The quality and completeness of that information still matter.
A narrower product at a lower cost
Kanonik was built around AI agents from the start. We concentrate on the compliance record, checks and review process instead of rebuilding a general AI assistant and a large connector catalog. This supports a leaner product and our low-cost, self-service approach.
It works inside the AI environment you already govern
Use a compatible client and the controls your organization applies to it. Kanonik connects through MCP rather than requiring a separate built-in assistant. Compatibility and permission requirements must still be checked for your setup.
Improvements in your AI can help your compliance work
Better tools for finding information, understanding your systems and preparing work can help your team do more with Kanonik. We focus on the compliance structure and accountable record around that work rather than duplicate what your AI already does well.
What to consider
Connecting through MCP can take more setup with some providers. A compatible client and the right permissions are required; MCP does not establish universal compatibility with internal AI governance systems. A built-in assistant may be easier for a company that has not selected an AI service, and a single supplier can simplify support.
Specialist models can perform particular tasks better, faster or at a lower cost when testing supports that choice. A vendor-managed assistant may use the same leading models available to BYOM users. Customer choice does not mean built-in AI is inferior. Improvements in a compatible AI can help preparation, but results still depend on the task and should be evaluated. Kanonik's separate Verifier checks proposed work; choosing the model for preparation does not remove that review.
